What is the best thing that I love about my work? I get to spend most of the day learning stuff and then sharing what I learned with the world. Doesn’t get much better than that.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? Buffett says success is when people who you want to love you do love you. Can’t argue.
What is my greatest fear? Regretting anything on my death bed.
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Unhealthy Twitter addiction.
Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? Jason Zweig. He’ll go down as one of the greatest of all time.
What is my greatest extravagance? I usually don’t work past 3pm on Friday.
On what occasion would I lie? To protect someone who deserves being protected.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Writer’s block, and fearing that I’ll run out of stuff to write about.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? By far and away, speaking at conferences has given me the most joy and satisfaction.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I wish I could focus more.
What is my greatest achievement in work? Changing the way a few people think about really important topics.
What do the words ‘The Financial Freedom to Create’ mean to me? Having 100% control of your calendar to do whatever you want.
Where would I most like to live? You get used to anywhere, so the best is having multiple places to spend time.
What is my most treasured possession? That’s hard. Maybe my house? It’s safety and comfort for my wife and son, which is most of what I care about in life.
What is my most marked characteristic? I still with stuff well after most people would have quit. It’s more ignorance than grit.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I walk around my neighborhood several times a day. That’s where most of my “writing” happens.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? LOL, at home. I have a two year old and never go out.
What books influenced my life and how? When Breath Becomes Air. It’s changed everyone’s life who read it.
Who are my favorite writers? Tim Urban, Josh Brown, James Surowiecki, Michael Lewis.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Nothing. I’d want to think most of the day.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I don’t read fiction. None of it is true.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Anyone who risks what they need to protect what others need.
What role plays art in my life and work? All writing is art because what people think is good writing varies from one person to the next.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My wife, of course.
Whom would I like to work with? The same great people I worked with. But I’d love to work with more non-finance people. They see the world more clearly.
Which people in my profession would I love to meet? I think I’m lucky to have met most of whom I’d like to meet. So I want to meet the awesome people who I don’t even know about yet.
